Our Court of Protection team plays a vital role in supporting individuals who lack mental capacity, and we are now looking for an experienced and dedicated Head of Court of Protection to lead the Department.
The Role
As Head of the Court of Protection Department, you will be responsible for leading a highly skilled team, managing and developing complex cases, and driving the strategic growth of the department. You will work closely with vulnerable individuals, their families, and professional deputies to provide expert legal support in matters related to mental capacity, welfare, and financial management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership and Team Management: Lead, mentor, and develop the Court of Protection team, ensuring a collaborative and compassionate working environment that prioritises client care.
- Case Management: Oversee and manage a varied caseload, including matters related to Deputyship Applications, Wills, Property, Personal Welfare and Safeguarding.
- Client Care: Provide expert legal advice to individuals, families, and professional deputies in sensitive cases, ensuring that the client’s best interests are always at the forefront.
- Departmental Strategy: Shape and implement the strategic direction of the Court of Protection Department, driving growth and ensuring the team’s services are aligned with the needs of our clients.
- Business Development: Lead initiatives to raise the profile of the Court of Protection team, building relationships with clients, professional advisers, and third-party organisations, while identifying opportunities to grow the practice.
- Training and Development: Ensure that the team remains up-to-date with relevant legislative changes and developments in Court of Protection law, providing training and guidance to junior members of the team.
- External Representation: Act as an ambassador for the firm at conferences, seminars, and other industry events, representing the firm’s expertise in Court of Protection law.
Key Requirements
- Experience: A qualified solicitor with at least 3 years’ (PQE) in Court of Protection, with extensive experience in managing complex, high-value cases.
- Expertise: In-depth knowledge of the Court of Protection and related areas such as mental capacity, deputyship, personal welfare, and financial management for vulnerable individuals.
- Leadership: Proven leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire, mentor, and develop a team of professionals.
- Client-Focused: A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable clients, with the ability to provide clear, compassionate, and practical legal advice.
- Business Development: A proactive approach to business development, with a track record of building relationships with clients, healthcare professionals, and other external stakeholders.
- Communication: Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to handle sensitive and challenging conversations with empathy and professionalism.
- Organisational Skills: Ability to manage a busy caseload, prioritise tasks, and maintain a high level of attention to detail while working under pressure.
