As we continue to grow, we are seeking a skilled and experienced Head of Private Client Department to lead and develop our team.

The Role

As the Head of the Private Client Department, you will play a pivotal role in leading a highly skilled team of solicitors and support staff, driving the success of the department, and delivering expert legal services in all aspects of Private Client. You will be responsible for managing a broad range of high-net-worth clients, providing advice on complex estate planning, wills and probate, trust management, tax matters, and elderly client services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership and Team Management: Lead and inspire the Private Client team, providing mentoring, professional development, and guidance to junior and senior colleagues alike.
  • Client Care: Deliver exceptional service to high-net-worth clients, assisting with wills, trusts, estate planning, and probate matters, while maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Departmental Strategy: Shape and execute the strategic direction of the Private Client department, focusing on enhancing the firm’s offering and fostering growth.
  • Case Management: Oversee and manage complex cases, including high-value estates, inheritance tax planning, charitable giving, and contested wills and trusts.
  • Business Development and Networking: Develop and implement business development strategies, including expanding the firm’s private client services, networking with key external contacts, and building relationships with potential clients.
  • Training and Knowledge Sharing: Ensure that the team is up-to-date with legislative changes and best practices, and provide guidance and training to junior staff on complex matters.
  • Marketing and Representation: Represent the firm in the wider community through speaking engagements, networking events, and public relations initiatives, enhancing the firm’s reputation in Private Client.

Key Requirements

  • Experience: A qualified solicitor with at least 3 years (PQE) in Private Client, with substantial experience in managing a busy and varied caseload of complex matters.
  • Expertise: Strong knowledge of all areas of Private Client, including Estate Planning, Trusts, Probate, Tax, and Inheritance Law.
  • Leadership: Proven leadership experience, with the ability to manage, inspire, and develop a team of legal professionals.
  • Client-Focused: A passion for delivering client-centric legal services with exceptional care and understanding of the unique needs of high-net-worth individuals.
  • Business Development: A proactive approach to business development, with a track record of building client relationships, expanding service offerings, and contributing to departmental growth.
  • Communication: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships both internally and externally.
  • Adaptability: Ability to manage multiple priorities, work under pressure, and deliver results in a fast-paced environment.
