Annual Increases to National Minimum Wage &
Statutory Payments for 2022

It is about this time each year that I set out the changes to the National Minimum Wage and the National Living Wage, so here we have it…

It is not uncommon for rather large and convoluted media circuses to form around the time of an increase to National Minimum Wage & Statutory Pay rates, which can often result in the spreading of incorrect information resulting in mass confusion! Fear not, Senior Employment Consultant Solicitor Leah Waller is here to clarify the changes and who they will affect from what date. Keep reading for more information.

 

The National Minimum Wage and Statutory Pay increases from 1 April 2022 will be as follows:

 

National Minimum Wage:

  • Apprentice under the age of 19 (or first year Apprentice)

Increased from £4.15 to £4.81 per hour

 

  • Aged 16-17  

Increased from £4.62 to £4.81 per hour

 

  • Aged 18-20

Increased from £6.56 to £6.83 per hour

 

  • Aged 21-22

Increased from £8.36 to £9.18 per hour

 

  • Aged 23 and over (National Living Wage)

Increased from £8.91 to £9.50 per hour

 

In relation to Statutory Leave Payments, these will again increase from 1 April 2022 as follows:

 

  • Statutory Maternity Pay and Statutory Adoption Pay

Increased from £151.97 to £156.66 per week (or 90% of the employee’s average weekly earnings, whichever is lower)

 

  • Statutory Paternity Pay, Shared Parental Pay and Parental Bereavement Pay

Increased from £151.96 to £156.66 per week (or 90% of the employee’s average weekly earnings, whichever is lower)
