We think you will agree that this is a staggering statistic (and is likely to be higher!) and may go some way to explain the sudden hike in Google searches for ‘signs of burnout’, with searches increasing a shocking 221% in the last three months.

As we head into the colder Winter months, when our mental health can be placed at higher risk, it is important to check in with ourselves, colleagues and staff to ensure our mental health and wellbeing is being protected.

Taking care of our own mental health has so many benefits, not least because we cannot be our best version of ourselves (for ourselves and for our loved ones) when we are struggling with our own mental health but it is also important at work for both employees, employers and as colleagues to ensure that we are looking out for the wellbeing of others.

Why not take a look at our previous article ‘Mental Health and Wellbeing in the Workplace’ for some ideas and tips to help improve your own mental wellbeing, including writing a Gratitude Journal and finding someone, you trust, that you can talk to.

As employers it is important that your employees and staff feel supported, especially where work can be a source of, or contributing factor to stress.

With a different approach to work being experienced by many (with hybrid working, hot-desking and remote working becoming ever more popular) it is important that employers and HR departments are able to deal with conversations and requests in relation to mental health to prevent further deterioration for the staff and potential discrimination or stress at work claims against the company.
